What usually goes wrong
Some of these you can check yourself in a couple of minutes. The rest need a technician with the right tools, and that is what the call-out is for.
It will not start
Usually power before anything else. Check the socket with another appliance and the fuse or breaker feeding the machine. If the supply is fine, the fault is internal, often the door interlock or the main board.
It will not spin
Nearly always an unbalanced or overloaded drum first, so redistribute the load and try again. After that it is the drive belt, the brushes or the motor, which need a technician.
It will not drain
A blockage somewhere in the drain path: the filter, the drain hose or the pump. Clearing the filter solves a large share of these, and keeping it clean stops them coming back.
Water leaking out
The door seal is the usual culprit, cracked or worn. After that it is a loose or split hose connection at the inlet or outlet. A leak is worth acting on quickly before it reaches anything else.
It stops mid-cycle
Points to a heating fault, a sensor, or the control board losing its place. This one needs diagnosis rather than a guess, because several different parts produce the same symptom.
Loud noise on spin
Something is caught in the drum, or the drum bearings are wearing. A coin trapped in the filter is common and cheap; worn bearings are a bigger job worth catching early.

Motor triac / main control board
Check connections and wiring. If the fault stays, the component needs replacing.
Motor or tacho generator
Examine the motor and its connections, and replace the faulty part where needed.
Drain circuit
Check the drain hose, pump and filter for blockages. Clear them, then inspect the pump for damage.
Pressure switch / water system
Inspect the inlet hose for kinks or blockages and confirm water pressure is sufficient.
Temperature sensor or heating element
A sensor or element fault. Needs testing before any part is replaced.
Motor speed control circuit
A control-circuit fault rather than the motor itself.

Points to the control unit or the main board.
Heating element or temperature sensor
Heating side fault, closely related to F05.

A reset clears some codes: unplug the machine, wait a few minutes and plug it back in. Check connections are secure and clear any blockage in the drain hose, pump or filter. If the code returns after that, the fault is real and needs a technician rather than another reset.
